New top story on Hacker News: Show HN: Micasa – track your house from the terminal

Show HN: Micasa – track your house from the terminal 40 by cpcloud | 12 comments on Hacker News. micasa is a terminal UI that helps you track home stuff, in a single SQLite file. No cloud, no account, no subscription. Backup with cp. I built it because I was tired of losing track of everything in notes apps, and "I'll remember that"s. When do I need to clean the dishwasher filter? What's the best quote for a complete overhaul of the backyard. Oops, found some mold behind the trim, need to address that ASAP. That sort of stuff. Another reason I made micasa was to build a (hopefully useful) low-stakes personal project where the code was written entirely by AI. I still review the code and click the merge button, but 99% of the programming was done with an agent. Here are some things I think make it worth checking out: - Vim-style modal UI. Nav mode to browse, edit mode to change. Multicolumn sort, fuzzy-jump to columns, pin-and-filter rows, hide columns you don't ...

New top story on Hacker News: Show HN: Price Per Ball – Site that sorts golf balls on Amazon by price per ball

Show HN: Price Per Ball – Site that sorts golf balls on Amazon by price per ball 19 by rockdiesel | 28 comments on Hacker News. I took inspiration from diskprices.com, but applied it to my golfing hobby. For someone who can't always keep it in the fairway, golf balls can get rather expensive, so I decided to build a way for me to view Amazon listings by how much they cost per ball in the hopes of finding some good deals. Hence the name of the website. The site is hosted on Cloudflare pages and I use Github actions to trigger a python script that fetches and checks the prices. It runs twice a day. If the script encounters any new ASINs, it stores them for future checks, so the list of golf balls being price checked should keep growing over time. Changes are then pushed to Cloudflare pages. There can sometimes be some pricing oddities when the product title says one count, but the unit count being returned from Amazon is another number, so I'm trying to add some checks to help...

New top story on Hacker News: Show HN: Maths, CS and AI Compendium

Show HN: Maths, CS and AI Compendium 12 by HenryNdubuaku | 1 comments on Hacker News. Hey HN, I don’t know who else has the same issue, but: Textbooks often bury good ideas in dense notation, skip the intuition, assume you already know half the material, and get outdated in fast-moving fields like AI. Over the past 7 years of my AI/ML experience, I filled notebooks with intuition-first, real-world context, no hand-waving explanations of maths, computing and AI concepts. In 2024, a few friends used these notes to prep for interviews at DeepMind, OpenAI, Nvidia etc. They all got in and currently perform well in their roles. So I'm sharing. This is an open & unconventional textbook covering maths, computing, and artificial intelligence from the ground up. For curious practitioners seeking deeper understanding, not just survive an exam/interview. To ambitious students, an early careers or experts in adjacent fields looking to become cracked AI research engineers or progress to P...

New top story on Hacker News: Show HN: 20+ Claude Code agents coordinating on real work (open source)

Show HN: 20+ Claude Code agents coordinating on real work (open source) 10 by austinbaggio | 14 comments on Hacker News. Single-agent LLMs suck at long-running complex tasks. We’ve open-sourced a multi-agent orchestrator that we’ve been using to handle long-running LLM tasks. We found that single LLM agents tend to stall, loop, or generate non-compiling code, so we built a harness for agents to coordinate over shared context while work is in progress. How it works: 1. Orchestrator agent that manages task decomposition 2. Sub-agents for parallel work 3. Subscriptions to task state and progress 4. Real-time sharing of intermediate discoveries between agents We tested this on a Putnam-level math problem, but the pattern generalizes to things like refactors, app builds, and long research. It’s packaged as a Claude Code skill and designed to be small, readable, and modifiable. Use it, break it, tell me about what workloads we should try and run next! Show HN: Daily-updated database of malicious browser extensions 3 by toborrm9 | 2 comments on Hacker News. Hey HN, I built an automated system that tracks malicious Chrome/Edge extensions daily. The database updates automatically by monitoring chrome-stats for removed extensions and scanning security blogs. Currently tracking 1000+ known malicious extensions with extension IDs, names, and dates. I'm working on detection tools (GUI + CLI) to scan locally installed extensions against this database, but wanted to share the raw data first since maintained threat intelligence lists like this are hard to find. The automation runs 24/7 and pushes updates to GitHub. Free to use for research, integration into security tools, or whatever you need. Happy to answer questions about the scraping approach or data collection methods. They are heavy because they optimize for accounts, sync, and abstraction - not for simple, local API work. Voiden treats API tooling as files. It’s an offline-first, Git-native API tool built on Markdown, where specs, tests, and docs live together as executable Markdown in your repo. Git is the source of truth. No cloud. No syncing.
