Launch HN: Sorcerer (YC S24) – Weather balloons that collect more data 75 by tndl | 30 comments on Hacker News. Hey HN! We’re Max, Alex, and Austin, the team behind Sorcerer ( https://sorcerer.earth ). Sorcerer builds weather balloons that last for over six months, collecting 1000x more data per dollar and reaching previously inaccessible regions. In 1981, weather disasters caused $3.5 billion in damages in the United States. In 2023, that number was $94.9 billion ( https://ift.tt/qewk6D9 ). The National Weather Service spends billions annually on its network of weather balloons, satellites, and aircraft sensors – generating hundreds of terabytes of data every day. This data, called observation data, is fed into massive supercomputers running advanced physics to produce global weather forecasts. Despite this cost, there are still places in the US where we don't know what the temperature will be two days from now: https://ift.tt/UYLHm1Q... . And for the rest of the world that lac

Launch HN: Hamming (YC S24) – Automated Testing for Voice Agents 21 by sumanyusharma | 5 comments on Hacker News. Hi HN! Sumanyu and Marius here from Hamming ( https://www.hamming.ai ). Hamming lets you automatically test your LLM voice agent. In our interactive demo, you play the role of the voice agent, and our agent will play the role of a difficult end user. We'll then score your performance on the call. Try it here: https://ift.tt/BjALpzs (no signup needed). In practice, our agents call your agent! LLM voice agents currently require a lot of iteration and tuning. For example, one of our customers is building an LLM drive-through voice agent for fast food chains. Their KPI is order accuracy. It's crucial for their system to gracefully handle dietary restrictions like allergies and customers who get distracted or otherwise change their minds mid-order. Mistakes in this context could lead to unhappy customers, potential health risks, and financial losses. How do you make s

Launch HN: Roe AI (YC W24) – AI-powered data warehouse to query multimodal data 10 by richardmeng | 2 comments on Hacker News. Hey HN, we’re Richard and Jason from Roe AI ( https://getroe.ai ). We’re building a query engine that lets data people do SQL queries on various kinds of unstructured data (videos, images, webpages, documents) using LLM-powered data processors. Here is a 3-minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-WwJk1v5mI , showing how to create an LLM data processor to process videos, build a semantic search for image data, and use it with SQL. The problem we tackle is that data analysts cannot quickly answer their business questions around unstructured, multimodal data. For example, product teams want to understand user session replay videos to understand the painpoints of using their product. Ads teams need to know everything about an advertiser based on their web pages, such as the products they offer, payment methods, etc. Marketing teams need to know how produc

Show HN: We open-sourced our GitOps template for ArgoCD 8 by pmig | 0 comments on Hacker News. We have been using GitOps internally for years, to leverage infrastructure as code for our Kubernetes clusters. With the recent release of the GitOps mode for Glasskube, we decided to open source our GitOps template. This template helps you get started with GitOps in minutes instead of hours. Previously it was always a struggle to setup your Kubernetes Cluster with the GitOps approach leading to teams manually deploying manifests and helm charts which results in Kubernetes clusters that are hard to maintain. As of today git is still the most popular solution for managing your Kubernetes Cluster with IaC. The GitOps template uses the ArgoCD's App of Apps model and all packages (including ArgoCD itself) will receive automatic update suggestions via pull requests thanks to the Renovate and Glasskube integration. In order to get started, you just need to create your own repository from our

Show HN: Visual a* Pathfinding and Maze Generation in Python 22 by eigenvalue | 4 comments on Hacker News. I was fascinated reading through another recent HN submission about a highly efficient implementation of A* in Lisp, which got me thinking about how I could do something similar in Python. However, these kinds of pathfinding algorithms really need complex terrain/mazes with interesting obstructions to showcase what they can do and how they work. So, I started thinking about how I could generate cool and diverse random "mazes" (they aren't really mazes, but I'm not sure what the best term is). I got a bit carried away thinking of lots of different cool ways to generate these mazes, such as cellular automata, fractals, Fourier transforms, etc. Then it turned out that many of the generated mazes weren't actually solvable, so I spent some time coming up with various strategies to test and validate the generated mazes and then modify them so they would work bet

Show HN: Pie Menu – a radial menu for macOS 25 by hauken | 7 comments on Hacker News. Hi everyone! I'm Marius Hauken, an indie developer, and I'm excited to share my app: Pie Menu. It offers a fresh way to access your favorite menu bar commands and keyboard shortcuts on macOS. By simply pressing a hotkey you choose during setup, a radial menu appears around your cursor, customized to the current active application. This allows you to quickly select commands without having to remember complex shortcuts across different applications. Pie Menu comes with a library of preprogrammed commands for popular apps, but you can easily add any app on your computer. We've also created an extensive database at https://ift.tt/RfQatUr where you can quickly add shortcuts for different programs.
